Eric Snooks Guide to buying a Car Seat
Since 2006 all children under 135cms in height (or under 12 years of age) must travel in a car with a correct child restraint.
Choosing the correct car seat will depend on the weight of your child. There are many different makes to choose from, however they are all grouped according to the childs weight and height.
| Group 0+ | 0 - 13kg |
| Group 1 | 9 - 18kg |
| Group 2/3 | 15 - 36kg |
Some car seats are designed to cover more than one group.
Group 0+ infant car seats are easily removable from the car and many prams are designed so that a car seat can be fitted to the pram chassis. It is very important however to remember that, although this may appear convenient for the parent, an infant should spend a minimal period of time in a car seat, no longer than 2 hours, due to the cramped position.
Isofix
Isofix is a new method of fitting a car seat. Many new cars will have Isofix fittings which provide a rigid connection between the childs car seat and the car, this also minimises the likelihood of incorrect fitting.
The appropriate car seat is simply clicked into the Isofix anchor points in your car. An Isofix base is used for the Group 0+ infant seats which then easily click on or off the base.
Fitting
Car seats need to be fitted correctly. Some of the seat manufacturers will have a list of car models that their seats will fit. Our sales consultants can help you choose your car seat, however it is important to follow the manufacturers fitting instructions.
